Since Video Poker is not a game of pure chance, optimal play is required to minimise the house edge. This requires knowing what course of action to take based on your initial hand, depending on the probabilities it may be best to throw away a pat hand to draw to a potentially better hand.

As the payout tables can be significantly different between the various Video Poker variants. Players must ensure they use the correct Video Poker strategy guide:

Jacks or Better strategy
As the name suggests this variant requires a minimum hand of a pair of Jacks for a payout. There are a few sub-variants but the best is referred to as 9/6 Jacks or Better (which pays 9 coins for a full house and 6 coins for a flush).

Joker Poker strategy
Played with a 53 card deck (the extra being the Joker which is wild). Ensure you pick a casino where the minimum qualifying hand is a pair of Kings for the best odds.

Deuces Wild strategy
In this version all twos are wild, which makes it must more likely for high end hands to appear. Consequently the minimum qualifying hand is 3 of a kind and additional hands (which require wild cards) have been added to the upper end of the payout table, including 4 Deuces, Wild Royal Flush and 5 of a kind.
